Mark A. Ellmore, Jr. was born January 1958 and grew up on a farm in Covington, Indiana. His father was a farmer and volunteer fireman for Covington Fire Department in Fountain County, Indiana. His mother was an elementary school teacher and homemaker.

The youngest of three children, Ellmore worked on the family farm since age 11. He made elementary school history by bringing a chipmunk, against his parent’s direct order, to school. The chipmunk escaped its’ box, bit three children, caused a teacher to faint and then the chipmunk promptly died of a heart attack. His parents had to send the chipmunk to Chicago for an autopsy to determine whether the chipmunk had rabies. Perhaps his parent’s form of solitary confinement had a direct influence on his decision to become an attorney!
